For years, I watched my mother and aunt’s spend hours sharing new beauty tips and tricks with each other. Watching them talk and swap regimens with each other every weekend shaped my idea of beauty. It’s communal, it doesn’t age, it’s consistency, and it fluctuates.

It isn’t always about the physical, it could be time spent with a loved one, internal rejuvenation or cultural. What drove me to create these images isn’t just my personal experience, but what I believe rings true for others as well. Showcasing older models with flowers and a colorful palette, that is typically reserved for the young, expresses the idea that beauty has no age .. and quite frankly needs a bit of a switch up.

Beauty isn’t one size fits all.  Let’s honor that.

Photographer

Nikk Rich, born of immigrant parents, grew up in Northern Virginia. Growing up surrounded by nature, she brings elements of her childhood into her photographs with composition and lighting. Rich’s images hold a quiet inviting confidence that show through interactions with her subjects She aims to explore topics that are not typically front of mind such as soft black beauty, age, etc. in her work to continue to add positive imagery of people of color.
