21 Roses are symbolic, meaning “I am dedicated to you.” In this rendition - dedicated to oneself. With this project, Madeleine aims to incorporate emotions evoked during COVID-19. Being in confined spaces during this new normal, many have had more time to dedicate to themselves and to reflect. Confronting this new reality, being alone with your own thoughts for an unpredictable amount of time can be fearsome. The purpose behind “21 Roses” is to promote optimism, highlighting self love and inner stimulation to remember and revere individual purpose.

Madeleine Dalla is a Swedish-born photographer fueled by nostalgia. Flowing between her native country and her Nicaraguan roots, her work is visually minimalistic, yet highly emotive. While her practice is meditative, she’s inspired by the pride and soulfulness of her subjects. Together, they create a utopian environment of embodied empowerment. Madeleine has exhibited her work at Apple and MILK Studios, with published work in magazines such as Vogue, RollingStone and The FADER.
